WEEKLY BULLETIN

Third Sunday of Lent:

March 7, 2010

Cornerstone of Faith

A Moment. The Cornerstone of Faith campaign offers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to contribute to the building of a campus that will be not only a landmark into the next century, but also a legacy of the faith commitment of our ancestors. Edmonton has been blessed with a seminary for the last 80 years. The new seminary, the first to be built in Canada in the new millennium, is a unique symbol of our faith and allows us to proclaim in architecture the beauty of the Gospel. Its construction is but one moment in a long history. And this moment offers a blessed opportunity to be part of that history.

Our Cornerstone of Faith campaign is defined by a commitment to Christ as our Cornerstone. The root of our approach recognizes that everything we have comes from God’s generosity. All our resources have been entrusted to us for the benefit of God’s creation and the service of His saving plan in Christ.

Our Parish goal is $150,000 and we hope that every family will be able to pray and support the campaign according to their means. To date we have raised $36,000. We thank all those families who have made their gift and pledge. Please visit the Cornerstone of Faith website to watch the Cornerstone DVD and to read more about the new seminary and college. The website address is in the Cornerstone brochures.

Please think about and pray about your support for our seminary and college. There are two Cornerstone brochures – a campaign brochure and a prayer brochure. Please take home the Cornerstone brochures and make your gift over the next two weeks. Cornerstone volunteers will be at the entrance to the church so please stop by and learn more about this once-in-a-lifetime project.

CORNERSTONE - Success in the eyes of God is not about the quantity or quality of our material goods. Instead, it’s about how we use these goods: do they move us closer to God, or are they an obstacle? God calls us to share what we have to help others. Please continue to respond in prayer and generosity.

SHARE LENT – SEE YOUR GIFT GROW: As we continue our journey through lent, let us remember our partners in the south, here is another brief story……..Small acts of love can touch the lives of many people. In Nicaragua, DEVELOPMENT AND PEACE partner CAPRI founded seed banks. Local small-scale farmers borrow corn, bean and vegetable seeds. They contribute seeds of their own after harvest so that others may have some. “We feel joyful because we don’t have to scramble to get seeds. In the name of our community, we are grateful,” says Cleothilda, the chairperson of one of CAPRI’s four seed banks. Jesus, Veronica reached out in love to ease your suffering. May we follow her example, and the example of people and parishes in Canada, who help these small-scale farmers in Nicaragua help themselves.

Register online at www.40daysforlife.com/edmonton.

THE GOOD STEWARD: God heard the cry of His people in Egypt and responded generously by bringing them out of captivity. But in the desert the Israelites began complaining to Moses. They were not grateful for the gift of their freedom – a grateful heart silences a complaining voice! We good stewards pray that we will always be grateful for the gifts and opportunities that we are given. When we are at times not grateful, when we are overcome with an unhealthy lust for material things, power, or prestige, we are called to repent, and we are grateful for the Lord’s mercy.
